Lynden B. Miller

Renowned public garden designer Lynden B. Miller will present an inspirational lecture on Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. based on 30 years of experience designing urban green space in Manhattan.

Ms. Miller’s talk will outline how public spaces with good year-round plantings can change city life by providing a connection with nature. It will take place at the Garden Education Center of Greenwich at 130 Bible Street in Cos Cob. Public space must be designed for the needs of the people who will use them. She will show the befores and afters of various different projects around the city, how they are funded and what effects they have had on city life in Manhattan. Well-designed and well-maintained parks also contribute to economic growth in surrounding neighborhoods, providing tax benefits, encouraging tourism and reducing crime.

As the Director of the Conservatory Garden in Central Park, Mrs. Miller has designed many public gardens and parks in Manhattan, as well as gardens at the New York Botanical Garden and several university campuses. Her book Parks, Plants and People: Beautifying the Urban Landscape, will be available for purchase and she will be glad to sign. Register at Gecgreenwich.org. Call 203-869-9242 for more details.
