Bocchino is who we need in Hartford

Outstanding state representatives often begin as strong supporters of a local cause. It shows they care and they have passion.

Yet it isn’t just working on local issues that makes an outstanding state legislator. Rather it is the legislative skills the individual brings to the process that are far more important. The ability to listen to all sides in a debate, the ability to reach across the aisle and engage the opposition, the ability to offer common-sense, pragmatic solutions are the qualities needed to succeed in Hartford.

Mike Bocchino has just these qualities. During his tenure as president of the New Lebanon School PTA and the Byram Neighborhood Association, Mike demonstrated he has the essential skills of consensus building and leadership — experience he can take to Hartford.

The biggest issue facing Connecticut today is its floundering economy. Connecticut has not recovered from the 2008-09 recession. A Democratic governor and Democratic majority in the General Assembly have imposed higher taxes and increased business regulations and irresponsibly overgenerous pension and benefit payments.

Residents are leaving the state, and small businesses, the key to job growth, are avoiding Connecticut. In fact, Connecticut ranks with the worst five states in economic indicators leading to job growth. Any effective government requires a healthy debate of different proposals, not one party dictation. The 150th District needs to continue to provide balance and an alternative point of view to the Democrat stronghold in Hartford.

We need a state representative who will argue fiscal restraint and continue to bring a real exchange of ideas and solutions to Hartford. Mike Bocchino is just that person. I’m voting for Mike on Nov. 4 and urge all my voters in the 150th to do the same.
