Bocchino is the right candidate for Greenwich

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I’ve watched the debates for the 150th State Representative District where Republican Mike Bocchino faces Democrat Jill Oberlander.

I’m very impressed with Bocchino. Repeatedly during the debates he insisted we improve Connecticut’s economy by encouraging all business with reduced regulation and a more favorable tax code. After listening to Oberlander I realized she will be in lock step with the same Hartford Democrats who, with years of supermajorities, have done so much damage to Connecticut’s economy.

Oberlander didn’t even mention the economy when asked, at the Channel 12 debate, what are the most important issues. She said Connecticut and Gov. Malloy “are doing a great job.” Really?

Bocchino touts his business experience and significant community involvement with in-depth knowledge of how Greenwich operates. Oberlander says her stint at the MTA and being a New York lawyer are her best qualifications.  Excuse me, the MTA? Probably the worst run organization besides the state of Connecticut.

Public education is critical, too. With children in the Greenwich public schools, Bocchino knows those issues as only someone does who is involved with public education daily can. This is important experience he’ll take to Hartford to benefit all Greenwich schoolchildren.

As an RTM member, I was disconcerted by Oberlander’s actions against the Mianus River Boat Club’s lease. Oberlander and her group had a bone to pick with First Selectman Peter Tesei over town lease policy. When Tesei wouldn’t cave to their demands, Oberlander pushed the RTM to hold the boat club lease hostage.

Mianus River Boat Club members are wonderful people. With vision, sweat and hard work they created a beautiful marina for summer enjoyment. While Oberlander was summering in the Hamptons, rubbing elbows with the liberal Democrat glitterati, boat club members were fixing docks and painting their clubhouse wondering if the town will yank their lease. To me, Oberlander picking on them was inexplicable, showing she’s out of touch with our community.

If Greenwich wants the best representation possible in Hartford, cast your vote for Mike Bocchino in the 150th.  He knows the issues; he loves the town; he cares about you.
