It was a happy Homecoming weekend for Greenwich High School with a packed parade of supporters and then a victory on the field.

Under clear skies, the parade took off Saturday morning from Julian Curtiss School and traveled to nearby Greenwich Avenue. After going down the Avenue it turned around and headed back toward Greenwich High School, with crowds of well wishers lining the way as trucks of GHS students tossed candy to them. The approximately 45-minute parade was a huge hit for the community.

This led to first to a soccer tournament and then the Homecoming football game, which Greenwich won by a score of 34-15 over the Trumbull High School Golden Eagles. Full coverage of the game is available on Page 15A of this week’s edition and is online at Greenwich-post.com. HANRadio.com was broadcasting the game as the Cardinals made the packed hometown crowd happy with the victory.

Homecoming king Iain Edmundson and queen Julia Bunte-Mein had places of honor during the parade and during the game they received their crowns from GHS Headmaster Chris Winters. The ceremony, which was followed by the Homecoming dance on Saturday night, was the culmination of a week’s worth of activities designed to show Cardinal spirit.

Post photographer John Ferris Robben was on the scene, and a slideshow of parade images will be available Monday at Greenwich-post.com, which already has action photos from the game on display.
