The Greenwich Crew team takes to the water during Sunday’s Head of the Housatonic regatta in Shelton.

On Saturday, Greenwich Crew traveled to Shelton for the Head of the Housatonic regatta.

Spirits were high among the athletes, despite the rainy and bleak conditions. The weather cleared towards the end of the day, leaving flat water and great racing conditions.

The women had another successful showing this weekend. Marie McCormack placed second in her Masters Single. McCormack, along with Kristen Erickson, also placed third of 12 in their Masters Double. Rounding off the Women’s event was Mary Himes, Diane Herman, Tara Otsuka, and Sun Yung, who all placed fourth in the Masters Quad.

On the high school side, the first Novice Women’s-8 of Kiyana Marsh, Ellie Dabney, Katie Salony, Amanda Pyne, Avery O’Brien, Lucy Massam, Charlotte Hacker, Anika Rabenhorst and Maggie Kane finished sixth out of 20, showing significant improvement from the previous week.

The Varsity Men’s-8 of Brendan Furtado, Cole Korzendorfer, Jack Seavey, Chris Pyne, Caleb Edmundson, Sean Hayes, Jack Fischetti, Derek Woo and Sean Keyser had a stellar performance, placing fifth out of 19 competitive entries.

Mike Tebay also placed fourth in the highly contested race of Veteran Men’s Singles.

Select Varsity Girls, Masters Women and Masters Men will be traveling to Boston next weekend to compete in the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston.
