Greenwich High girls swim team ties Glastonbury in thriller

The Greenwich High School girls swimming and diving team battled Glastonbury High School Saturday afternoon and came away with the rare tie, as both schools grabbed 93 points on the day.

For the Cards, no one had a better day than Kelly Montesi, as she won two individual events and was a teammate on Greenwich’s lone relay victory.

Competing in the 200-yard freestyle event, Montesi won the event with a time of 2:00.33. A few events later, Montesi was back in the water. Touching the wall with a time of 1:01.24, Montesi struck gold in the 100-yard butterfly event. Montesi started the day with a first place finish as Montesi, along with Isobel Walker, Brooke Collins and Sophia Jahan, swam the 200-yard medley relay and won with a time of 1:55.22.

The duo of Collins and Walker also took top honors in an individual event. Competing in the 100-yard backstroke, Walker touched the wall first, posting a time of 1:02.02. Not to be outdone was Collins, who finished with the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12:04.

Glastonbury also had a swimmer take first in two individual events. Grace Moore grabbed top honors in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.83 and also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.04. Glastonbury’s Jessica ¬†Zhang won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.76 seconds and teammate Sophie Gysling took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.81.
