Greenwich Academy field hockey ties Tabor Academy 1-1

Competing against a tough Tabor Academy team at Choate Rosemary Hall, the Greenwich Academy field hockey team came away with a hard-fought 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon.

“It was a very evenly-matched game,” Greenwich Academy head coach Jaime Brower said. “Tabor was a very physical team and I think our girls handled it well. We came from behind to tie the game at 1-1 and that was very positive for us.”

With 22 minutes to play in the game, Tabor ended the scoreless tie with a goal, however the Gators were able to answer.

Tabor Academy was holding on to its slim 1-0 lead, but Greenwich Academy answered with 12:55 to play in the game. Whitney Balanoff found the back of the cage off a nice pass from Olivia LeSueur. Throughout the game, GA goalie Julia Booth was stellar and finished with 10 saves on the day.

The Gators finished the game with 13 penalty corners and five shots on goal. On the other side of the ball, Tabor finished with eight penalty corners and 11 shots on goal.

Greenwich Academy will be back in action Thursday when they host School of the Holy Child.
