Dorothy Hamill rink opening Monday for public skating season

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that beginning Monday, Oct. 13, the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink will begin the full public skating session schedule.

All sessions are open to Greenwich residents and their guests. Proof of residence is required and guests must be physically accompanied by a Greenwich resident. Admission fees will apply.

Registration is still open for the town’s skating school and the youth hockey program.

The skating school program begins Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The programs offered include Mommy, Daddy and Me (three- to four-years-old), Snowplow Sam (four- to five-years-old), Youth Basic (three- to 15-years-old), Bridge Program and Adult Basic (16-years-old and older).

All classes are 30 minutes long and classes run for eight weeks. The cost is $110 for eight weeks and $100 for each additional child enrolled. For all non-resident guests, the cost is $135.

The Greenwich youth hockey programs offered include Pre-Hockey Instructional Clinic (primarily for children five- to 10-years-old), Novice Youth League (seven- to 10-years-old) and Senior Youth League (11- to 14-years-old).

The programs run until Feb. 28, 2015. All children registered for the Pre-Hockey Instructional Clinic are to report on Saturdays from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. and the evaluation sessions for the Novice and Senior Youth Leagues began on Oct. 4.

Novice and Senior Youth League games and practices take place on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The cost of the Pre-Hockey Instructional Clinic is $225, $210 for each additional child enrolled. For all non-resident guests, the cost is $250.

The cost of the Novice and Senior Youth leagues is $315, $300 for each additional child enrolled.

Registration must be mailed to the Department of Parks and Recreation or dropped off to the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
