Sacred Heart volleyball blanks rival Greenwich Academy 3-0

The Convent of the Sacred Heart volleyball team won its fourth consecutive game and in the process defeated rival Greenwich Academy 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-18) Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s always good to get the victory,” Sacred Heart head coach Beth Wilson-Jordan said. “We worked in practice on some serving strategies and I think our serves achieved what we wanted to do in making things difficult for them to run an offense. That was one of our goals. We were able to serve strategically.”

The Tigers were led by the McKenney sisters, as Ellie McKenney finished with eight kills and 10 digs and Grace McKenney added 15 assists and eight aces.

“Ellie had the most amount of kills, but also was a force on defense,” Wilson-Jordan said. “She had a lot of digs and did a great job passing in the back row. Passing and digging are very important to our success because we want to get the ball to the setter to run an offense. Grace did a great job as setter and gave us 15 assists. She also served really strong. I also got a lot of support from our bench. I was able to put in some other players and those girls delivered.”

The Tigers also had some stellar plays along the net.

“We were blocking really well and were aggressive on net,” the head coach said. “Overall I thought our communication was better. We had a lot of energy today and that was nice.”

With the victory, Sacred Heart improved to 7-5 on the season. After a rough start to the season, as the Tigers faced off against a lot of talented teams throughout New England,  CSH has been rolling right along.

“After the slow start we had, these types of games are really good for our confidence and for the momentum,” Wilson-Jordan said. “I hope this carries over to the rest of our schedule. That’s the plan. We still have a month to go, so confidence would help us a lot.”
