Sacred Heart soccer defeats King School 3-1

The Convent of the Sacred Heart soccer team fell behind after 22 minutes, but the deficit didn’t last long as the Tigers scored three unanswered goals against King yesterday afternoon and went on to win 3-1.

Trailing 1-o, the Tigers got knotted the game at 1-1 in the 35th minute. Ellen Pucel charged towards the net and unloaded a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced out. The ball then landed on the foot of freshman Erin Cleary, who unloaded the rebound past King goalie Ali Weiner.

With the score deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the second half, Sacred Heart came through in the 63rd minute. Cleary was heading towards the King net on the right side and passed the ball to junior Tracey Hagan inside the box. Hagan than one-timed the shot to the near post for the 2-1 lead.

The Tigers iced the game in the 73rd minute. Cleary played a through ball from the right side to junior Kaitlyn Adamini on the left, who placed it past the keeper on a 1-on-1. The goal gave Sacred Heart the 3-1 advantage.

In net, senior Concetta Brusco finished with two saves while King’s Weiner netted 16 saves. In total, CSH finished with 22 shots on goal, while King only grabbed four.
