Change the Future Gala benefits fight against diabetes

Nws-Diabetes-week-9-18On Sept. 3 at Town Hall, Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei signed a proclamation declaring the week of Sept. 15 as Greenwich’s first Diabetes Awareness Week and RSVPs are needed for the upcoming gala.

Through this official proclamation signing, Mr. Tesei urged all citizens to support and recognize the work that the American Diabetes Association is doing to find a cure for diabetes. This kicked off several events during the week including an Under the Tent event at Whole Foods where Greenwich Hospital took blood pressures, a registered dietitian will be discussing healthy life style choices and the ADA gave Diabetes Risk Tests. There was also a discussion from Greenwich Hospital’s Nancy Ryan, RD, CDE, Entitled, Change Your Future, Fight Diabetes and town employees attended  special lunch sponsored by Whole Foods Market.

But there’s more as the  Change the Future gala will be held at the Greenwich Country Club on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Country Club located at 19 Doubling Road. The festive and elegant event will help raise the dollars to support diabetes research, advocacy, educational programs and local community initiatives. The evening includes a reception featuring exquisite hors d’oeuvres and aperitifs followed by a seated five-course dinner with wine pairings selected by Chamard Vineyards.

Master chefs including Frederic Kieffer, l’escale Restaurant; Pietro Scotti, DaPietro’s Restaurant; Bill Taibe, Le Farm Restaurant; Edward Varipapa, Leon’s Restaurant; Lisa & Stephen Maronian, Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cake; Marc Weber, On The Marc with Michel Nischan as master chef emcee will prepare a unique and interactive multi-media fine dining farm-to-plate culinary experience through a live feed from the kitchen to the ballroom, guests will be able to participate in a cooking adventure in real time.

The evening will also include the presentation of the Stop Diabetes Heroes Awards honoring Geralyn Spollett, MSN, ANP-CS, CDE and Master Chef Sam Talbot. RSVPs for the gala are needed by Oct. 17.
