Bocchino’s record shows Oberlander is the clear choice

Jill Oberlander is running against Michael Bocchino for the State Assembly in the 150th District, which stretches from Old Greenwich to Byram.

Mr. Bocchino’s campaign relies largely on his record as chairman of the Byram Neighborhood Association (BNA). Let’s look at that record.

At the September Representative Town Meeting (RTM), the chairman of RTM District 4 (Byram), who is also the vice chair of the BNA, moved to postpone acceptance of a United Way gift of $25,625 for a cushioned outfield fence at the Byram Shore Park Wiffle Ball Field. He explained that he and other Byram residents had learned about the proposed gift at a meeting of the BNA only three weeks earlier, and they needed time to consider traffic and other impacts. The RTM approved his motion to postpone acceptance of the gift.

In fact, Sue Snyder, superintendent of the Recreation Division of the Town’s Department of Parks and Recreation, had pitched this proposed gift to Mr. Bocchino in emails dated April 15 and April 28. So, for more than four months, Mr. Bocchino neglected to inform his BNA board or its members about this offer, and he failed to inform his district’s RTM members about a matter upon which they would be voting. Mr. Bocchino clearly dropped the (Wiffle) ball.

During their recent Channel 12 candidate debate, Mr. Bocchino totally misrepresented two of Jill Oberlander’s RTM votes, which are posted on the town website. When she asked him why, he said he didn’t have time to look them up. One has to wonder, does Mr. Bocchino have time to represent Greenwich in Hartford?

Jill Oberlander’s record of public service is pro-active and energetic. Jill served six years on the RTM Finance Committee, Labor Contracts, and Budget Overview committees. She is responsible, communicates effectively, and stays on top of the issues that concern you. Jill Oberlander deserves your vote.
