GADC gets more than $60k from United Way

The GADC River House is in line for a good chunk of change as one of 25 local agencies that will receive grants from the United Way of Greenwich to fund community health and human service programs in the upcoming fiscal year.

The United Way will provide GADC with a $61,145 grant to help fill the gaps between fees collected and the actual cost of serving their clients, regardless of clients’ ability to pay. The senior community center serves older adults with customized daytime programs relating to their health, social and recreational needs, while simultaneously offering a break to their caregivers.

Since the establishment of GADC, United Way has provided the organization with financial support.

GADC Executive Director, Carol Burns said in a press release that, “We are quite grateful for this grant. During these difficult times for non-profit organizations, the Greenwich United Way has been one of the loyal partners that have been able to maintain their commitment to our organization and the growing number of individuals and families who rely on our services.”

Greenwich United Way volunteers review the work of all agencies requesting Community Investment dollars to determine each year’s program funding level. In the press release announcing the grant, they reported that it was evident to them that GADC River House “was doing an outstanding job in the community serving a population in need.” They also noted the “highly trained and dedicated staff and the agency’s commitment to maintaining costs without jeopardizing quality.” The report also said that without the River House, “… many of the community’s seniors would have no other option besides living in nursing homes.”

Ms. Burns said “The United Way Community Investment volunteers carefully vet funding applicants so the organization can be confident its donors’ dollars are wisely spent; that is why we take United Way assessment so much to heart. Fund-raising in this environment is very challenging and the United Way’s ‘seal of approval’ is very gratifying.”
