Greenwich Academy field hockey shuts down Hopkins, 4-0

The Greenwich Academy field hockey team traveled to New Haven yesterday afternoon and had a long, but enjoyable trip back home, as they blanked Hopkins School, 4-0.

The Gators jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead at the half and cruised the rest of the way.

Caroline Keller got the ball rolling for GA, as she got the ball from Katrina Kraus with 22:17 left in the half. Not to be outdone was Kate DeFrino. With 18:31 to play in the half, Kraus dished the ball to DeFrino, who found the back of the net.

This time, it was Kraus that got into the scoring column. With 2:16 to play in the half, she got the ball from Alexa Murray DeFrino and she buried her shot at point blank range for the 3-0 lead.

Greenwich Academy’s final goal came in the second half. With 12:19 to play, Keller netted her second goal of the game. Julia Booth played the first half and wasn’t tested, but in the second half, Maggie Reville made three saves.

Both Hopkins and Greenwich Academy finished the game with four penalty corners.

The Gators will be back in action Saturday when they host Hotchkiss School at 1 p.m.
