Defense once again stands out as GA field hockey blanks Berkshire

Keeping its reputation of playing stingy defense, the Greenwich Academy field hockey team blanked another team, this time beating Berkshire 3-0 earlier today.

With both teams unable to find the back of the cage in the opening half, GA exploded on the scene in the second half. With 23:43 to play in the game, Katrina Kraus got the ball from Olivia LeSeur and Kate DeFrino and gave the Gators a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, LeSeur added to the lead off a penalty stroke that was due to a post player on Berkshire who stopped the ball with her body.

With 9:40 to play in the game, Greenwich Academy iced the game when Caroline Keller and LeSeur assisted on Tatiana Viola’s goal.

Greenwich Academy had 14 penalty corners and 11 shots on goal. In net, Julia Booth had a quiet today, finishing with one save.

The Gators will be back in action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to New Haven for a game against Hopkins School.
