Greenwich Academy field hockey shuts down Choate, 2-0

The combination of Tatiana Viola and Julia Booth led the way for the Greenwich Academy field hockey team. Keeping the streak alive of not allowing a goal this season, the Gators scored two first half goals and beat Choate Rosemary Hall 2-0 earlier today.

“We are taking it one step at a time this year,” GA head coach Jaime Brower said. “We completed three steps, so that’s good. I thought we played really well today.”

With 21:11 left in the opening half, Viola netted her first goal of the game, as Olivia LeSeur and Katrina Kraus each pitched in with an assist. A little less than 10 minutes later, Viola struck again. This time she got the ball from Karina Schultz with 13:42 to play in the half and found the back of the net.

“She’s been great in the circle,” Brower said. “Any time the ball is in the circle, she is on the ground or diving. She is really laying herself out in the circle and really making the most of any ball that’s around her. Tatiana gets rebounds off the goalie and is fearless. That’s translating into a lot of goals for her and that’s great.”

Not to be outdone was the play between the pipes of Booth, as the GA goalie finished with 20 saves. Her counterpart, Lauren Bailey finished with 12 saves for Choate.

“She handled the situation with a lot of poise and a lot of confidence,” Brower said. “I think that also translated up the field because I thought Haley¬†Carmichael, our center back, handled the pressure well as well. There was a lot of good communication and decision-making going on as a defensive unit, so we are very proud of the way they handled that.”

Greenwich Academy finished the game with 14 shots on goal, while Choate finished with 20 on the day. With the victory, GA upped its record to 3-0 on the season.
