Brunswick water polo starts season with two convincing wins

The Brunswick School water polo started its season off in grand fashion this past weekend, beating both Williston Northampton and Deerfield Academy.

After taking care of Williston Northampton 19-8 to start the season, the Bruins took to the pool against perennial powers Deerfield Academy and didn’t waste any time getting control of the game.

Outscoring Deerfield 5-0 in the first quarter, Brunswick used the dominating performance of Pat Stefanou to pace the team the rest of the way. Scoring six times against Deerfield, Stefanou helped the Bruins come away with the 14-6 victory in a rematch of the Liquid Four Consolation game last November in which Deerfield came out on top.

Stefanou scored two of his points in the first and was joined by Will Marvin, Matt Marvin in the opening stanza. The Marvin brothers each finished with two goals on the day, while Alex Prout also finished with a pair of goals. Simon Derby and Grant Pierce each added a goal, while Charlie Pang finished with 11 saves on the day.

The Bruins opened its season with a commanding 19-8 victory over Williston Northampton. Stefanou was once again a force, leading the way with four goals. Prout, Matt Marvin and Pierce each finished with a hat trick. Julian Ronda and Will Marvin each scored twice, while Derby finished with one goal.

In net, Pang finished with eight saves.

Brunswick will be back in action Wednesday when they host Hotchkiss School.
