Brunswick soccer falls to Taft on home opener, 5-2

The Brunswick soccer team opened up its fall season at home with a 5-2 loss to Taft School earlier today at the Edwards Campus.

The rain factored into a sloppy start, with Taft taking a 2-0 into the half on account of some helpful bounces on the wet pitch. After going down 4-0 in the 75th minute, the Bruins finally got on the board with two quick goals from Junior captain Sal Lopez.

Unfortunately a fifth goal from Taft put a halt to Brunswick’s hopes of getting back into it.

Despite the loss, a plethora of players put in a great effort for Brunswick. In addition to junior midfielder Lopez, junior center back Jared Boothe, junior midfielder Grant Quackenbush and senior captain Marshall Dickson, a midfielder, played well.

Also pitching in was junior keeper Aidan Schubert, who did a remarkable job in net during his first full game since transitioning from midfielder to goalkeeper Schubert made 12 saves in the losing effort.
