Greenwich Academy field hockey opens season with a shutout

The Greenwich Academy field hockey team started the Jaime Brower era in grand fashion Friday afternoon, as they upended King School 5-0.

The first half was all the Gators needed, as they fired off all five goals in six minutes.

With 15:44 to play in the half, Alexa Murray took the ball from Olivia LeSeur and netted the first goal of the contest. Only 33 seconds later, GA struck again, as Tatiana Viola got the pass from Katrina Kraus and put the ball in the back of the cage.

Whitney Balanoff scored her first of two goals on the afternoon with 14:09 to play in the opening half, as the duo of Viola and Kraus were awarded assists. Kraus was able to light the scoreboard with 11:40 to play when she got the ball from Murray.

Rounding out the scoring was Balanoff. Just under three minutes after Kraus’ goal, Murray, Caroline Keller and Viola were able to help get the ball to Balanoff, who gave the Gators a 5-0 lead.

Greenwich Academy finished with 18 shots on goal and had 16 penalty corners, while the combination of Maggie Reville and Julia Booth were able solid between the pipes.
