Greenwich YMCA ‘exercises’ fund-raising options

The Greenwich YMCA recently held its “Board and Staff Challenge” where members of the Board of Directors and staff formed teams and solicited donations from family and friends from throughout the Greenwich community and got themselves some good old fashioned exercise in the process.

An original goal of $100,000 was surpassed by several anonymous challenge grants that ultimately earned the YMCA $150,000. Overall 26 board members, 10 staff members and six friends of the YMCA participated in a day of exercise including swimming and spinning for an hour each as well as a high energy zumba class for an hour.

According to Jim Cabrera, chairman of the Board of Directors, “This was a great day, bringing board members, staff and friends together in a fun, healthy way that raised a lot of money. The YMCA is all about healthy living and we need to make sure we are practicing what we preach. The fact that we were able to do so and raise money and support from the community made it a memorable event for all involved. We have the best YMCA staff and it was great to spend time with them and see them in action.”
