Greenwich boy receives serious head injury after bike accident

An 11-year-old Greenwich boy is receiving emergency medical treatment after being critically injured in a bike accident on Saturday morning.

According to police reports, the boy is in stable but critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was initially taken to Stamford Hospital for care but was then airlifted to Yale-New Haven after receiving what has been called a “serious head injury.” He is currently being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The boy’s name has not been released but he has been identified as being a resident of Cos Cob.

Police stay that at approximately 8:30 a.m. the boy was riding with two other boys in the Montgomery Park and Pinetum section of Cos Cob. The 91-acre public park is a popular location to bicycle through but the boy was not wearing his helmet at the time when riding through the area, which has several spots of rough terrain. Police say that the boy lost control of his bicycle and rode off the trail before falling off it and striking his head on a rock.

A 911 call was made by one of the other boys and police and Greenwich Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) were sent to the scene. The nature of the accident is currently under investigation by the Greenwich Police Department’s Traffic Section and no other details were released.

The Post will have more details as they become available.
