Another year, another title for Greenwich's JBond summer softball team

JBond captured its third-consecutive Town of Greenwich women’s softball town crown by beating Greenwich Hospital, 19-9 at Bible Street Field.

JBond entered the tourney by finishing the regular season 9-1. In the first round, they faced S&S Rebels and won, 11-7. With the victory, JBond earned a trip to the finals and battled Greenwich Hospital.

Although JBond came out with the victory, it was Greenwich Hospital that opened the championship game with a 2-1 lead. They added to that entering the fourth inning, 5-4. That lead evaporated quickly, as the JBond women exploded for 10 runs in the top of the fifth. Big blows were delivered by first baseman Ginny Allis and catcher Heather Natale. Greenwich Hospital came back, plating runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, however, JBond answered decisively, erupting for four runs and cementing the team’s third town crown in as many years.

Whenever Greenwich Hospital attempted a rally, it was quickly squashed by outstanding defensive gems turned in by pitcher Janet Caswell, shortstop Amanda Novak and leftcenter fielder Erica Sabia.

Offensively, the JBond hitting machine was led by second baseman Sally Rogol, third baseman Shannon Bassalik, right center fielder Mary Beth Fratello, right fielder Michelle Santoro and left fielder Nancy Tarantino.
