On April 25, the Greenwich Alliance for Education hosted its Spin to Win fund-raiser at Soul Cycle, with more than 50 riders participating in support of the Alliance’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.

AVID is a college-readiness program at Greenwich High School, started in 2009, which aims to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. The program focuses on underserved students in the academic middle and working towards eliminating the achievement gap.

AVID also provides financial support and guidance to those students during their college years.

In the class of 2014, all 21 AVID students have received acceptances to four-year colleges, including the U.S. Naval Academy and the Culinary Institute of America. In addition, these students have received more than $1.5 million in merit scholarships and grants.

In 2013, the program’s first graduating class of 16 students were all accepted to college, marking their families’ first generation of college students.

Riders at the Spin to Win fund-raiser included an ecliptic mix of Alliance supporters, Greenwich High School teachers and administrators, AVID students and other school leaders.
