Greenwich Hospital named AARP Top 100 Host

Greenwich Hospital has received the AARP Driver Safety “Top 100 Host” Award for providing outstanding supporting to the organization’s goal of promoting safe driving throughout 2013. Greenwich Hospital was one of 100 hosts chosen from a pool of 18,000 nationwide.

Last year, Greenwich hospital offered 18 driving courses to help drivers over the age of 50 maintain safe driving practices. The courses helped 266 participants in a classroom setting, reviewing safe driving standards and practices.

AARP Driver Safety offers more than 30,000 courses each year through local organizations like Greenwich Hospital, and the top 100 hosts managed to educate more than 43,000 during 2013.

“AARP Driver Safety plays a critical role in educating drivers and helping them maintain their safety and independence,” said Julie E. Lee, vice president and national director of AARP Driver Safety. “Our initiative would not be so successful without the support of our host organizations, who generously dedicate staff time, resources and facility space to serving older Americans.”

The Top 100 Hosts were determined by a specific set of criteria. The top 75 organizations to host the largest number of participants were added to the list, with the remaining 25 being chosen based on the number of courses offered. These criteria allowed AARP Driver Safety to recognize hosts outside of highly populated areas.

Greenwich Hospital will continue offering the latest AARP Driver Safety courses through the year, and drivers of all ages are welcome to participate.
