The Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Heathcare hosted its third annual national Golf Classic at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich on June 5.

PGA Teacher of the Year and host of the Golf Channel’s Golf Fix Michael Breed helped kick off the event with a group golf clinic.

During the private luncheon that followed, guests heard remarks from the former U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Anthony Principi.

Jonas Center Executive Director, Darlene Curley and senior advisors Brigadier General (Ret.) William T. Bester and Cathy Rick addressed the group before they embarked on a round of golf. A shotgun start kicked off the tournament, and Lexus of Greenwich offered players a hole-in-one challenge.

Coming off the course, guests enjoyed cocktails dinner and music from Victor Mitrov and a live auction was held for two spots at the Lexus Champions for Charity National Championship at Pebble Beach Resorts. Awards were presented to the day’s winning golf foursomes as well.

Most importantly, the evening gave guests the opportunity to thank their veterans and reaffirm the initiatives of the Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program.

Jonas Center Advisory Board Member George Fox, and Jonas Center Co-founder David Jonas thanked attendees for their continued support of the center and the event. This year’s tournament raised nearly $325,000 in support of the Veterans Healthcare Program, which is part of a national initiative launched in 2011. Program funding helps support nurses who specialize in veteran health care and are working on the front lines to support the country’s wounded warriors.

Other guests present at the event included: Barbara Jonas, Michael Breed, Connecticut Commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs Linda Schwartz, U.S. Marine and Purple Heart Recipient Mark Watros, the Connecticut National Guard, Cathy Rick, Peter Malkin, Victor Mitrov, Darlene Curley and many more.
