Rummage Room to reopen Monday

The Rummage Room starts its 50th grand reopening celebration on Monday.

As summer vacation comes to an end it’s also time for The Rummage Room in Old Greenwich to reopen its doors.

The store, at 191 Sound Beach Avenue, will be preparing for its 50th anniversary and it’s going to start with a special anniversary sale starting Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. and continuing all week. The store will be open from 10 to 5 on Monday through Friday and from 10 to 1 on Saturday.

The store has been closed throughout August for it to be cleaned and restocked with “new” merchandise for sale and the reopening is being called the “biggest event of the year.”

The Rummage Room will formally mark its anniversary on Oct. 4. It began in 1964 as an annual rummage sale held at The First Congregational Church of Greenwich. This event became so successful that it was transformed into a business housed in a storefront at 191 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich and dubbed “the best little shop in town!”

Today, it’s still operated by the Women’s Fellowship of the church, which called The Rummage Room “a great place to find a bargain, donate your new or gently used items and/or make a tax-deductible donation.”

Over the past 50 years, The Rummage Room has been responsible for contributing more than $4 million to local, national and international benevolent organizations focused on women, children and families.
