The St. Catherine’s Carnival of Fun proved to be everything it promised and more as residents from all over town flocked to the annual summer event last week.

The event was declared another huge success for organizers as crowds packed Riverside Avenue for games, rides, food, music, raffles and all sorts of family entertainment. The night sky was lit up with the bright lights of the carnival and sounds of the festivities filled the air as big turnout was reported every night last week from Tuesday through Saturday.

The carnival is a yearly fund-raiser for St. Catherine of Siena Church, which is celebrating its 101st anniversary this year. Putting it all together is an effort that pretty much takes year-round attention. Pam Sloane, one of the driving forces behind the event, gave the credit to Fred Durante Jr. and Cindy Busani as well as what she called “an inspired committee” including Kathy Kriskey, who was tasked with corralling the many volunteers. Jane Laudonia, Betsy Parker, Janet Wrabel, Irene and Chris Theriot, Phil Lodato, Geoff Smith and Jim and Steve Coffey were also singled out for their efforts as was the St. Catherine’s Youth Group.

“St. Catherine of Siena’s Carnival 2014 included more volunteers than ever, more families helping out together and lots of great support from the community at large,” Ms. Sloane told the Post. “Much gratitude to all who contributed to this annual effort that means so much to the parish.”

Post photographer John Ferris Robben was at the scene for the fun and a slideshow of his memorable images is displayed above.
