Chuck Standard being honored at Citi Field

As part of the team’s July 4th salute to America, Greenwich resident and decorated World War II Navy veteran Chuck Standard was honored at Citi Field during the New York Mets’ game against the Texas Rangers.

Mr. Standard, who received the Navy Cross, which is the second highest award for a member of the Navy, dressed in full uniform for the game and was honored on the scoreboard, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. Mr. Standard was presented an American flag by Mets rookie pitcher Jacob deGrom and may have proved to be a good luck charm as the Mets came back to win, 6-5, that night.
