Justin Rivera named officer of the month

Officer Justin Rivera has been named the Greenwich Police Department’s officer of the month.

While on patrol, officer Rivera recognized a vehicle identified as suspicious in a previous police message. While the officer’s who published the original message were unable to establish probable cause leading to an arrest, officer Rivera conducted impromtu surveillance on the vehicle and its passengers.

Upon approach, the officer allegedly detected the scent of marijuana and observed the front passenger attempting to hide an item under the seat. In addition to marijuana violations, Officer Rivera’s investigation led to the seizure of 11 counterfeit $100 bills. The U.S. Secret Service eventually took interest interest in the case as a part of a larger federal investigation of counterfeiting in the Metro New York area.

Through his recognition of the vehicle, his personal initiative and sound investigative skills, Officer Rivera demonstrated the ideals of the police profession, and has been named officer of the month.
