A ‘historic’ evening

The Greenwich Historical Society celebrated the generosity of its major contributors on May 30 at Villa Candia, the historic home of Carolyn and Malcolm Weiner on Indian Harbor and former residence of “Commodore” E. C. Benedict. During the course of the evening, patrons were acknowledged and thanked for their significant contributions, the Weiner family was presented with the Society’s Landmarks Program’s 277th plaque, and New England Brokerage Company and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company were recognized for the their sponsorship of the evening. Robert H. Getz and Hugh B. Vanderbilt, Jr. were thanked for chairing this year’s annual fund campaign. Guests were also treated to a lively lecture by Heather Ewing and Laurie Ossman on the subject of Carrère & Hastings, the architects who originally designed the estate at which the event took place.
