The Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that internationally renowned jazz banjoist and vocalist Cynthia Sayer will be performing with her band at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park Wednesday, July 30, from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m.

The rain date is Thursday, July 31.

Ms. Sayer’s musical approach has a contemporary hip appeal, yet her music is based on 1920s and 1930s jazz. According to the town, “Cynthia brings her audience on a delightful journey through musical Americana.”

Opening in the ragtime era, she swings through the wild new “jass” sound, experiences vaudeville banjo stars, romps through Tin Pan Alley, vamps the classics, enjoys old favorites and winds up in a virtuoso flurry of banjo hits.

Ms. Sayer’s credits include playing and recording with Woody Allen, Dick Hyman, Milt Hilton and many others. She has played at the White House for President Ronald Reagan, at Carnegie Hall and with the New York Philharmonic.

Residents are invited to bring a picnic dinner, a blanket and come for some wonderful music under the stars.

Roger Sherman Baldwin Park is on Arch Street by the Teen Center and Island Beach Ferry Dock.
