Greenwich riders honored at Pegasus Horse Show

Greenwich resident Ramzi Si-Ahmed joined a field of local winners as he earned the Best Control of the Horse Award in his therapeutic riding class at the 33rd annual Pegasus Horse Show June 7.

Mr. Si-Ahmed earned the award his for his effective steering, speed management and ability to maintain a safe distance from other horses.

Other Greenwich ribbon winners included Pierluca Balestra (Best Transitions), Hannah Cunningham (Best Control of the Horse), Alexandra Frumin (Best Use of Aids) and Daniel Crawford (Best Position). Isabelle Root of Old Greenwich won the award for Best Half Seat in her class and Nina Cevallos of Cos Cob won her class’s Best Position ribbon.

The show was held at Pegasus Farm in Brewster, N.Y., the nonprofit organization’s main equestrian center. Nearly 70 Pegasus students with special needs were honored for their many achievements during the show, as each participant showcased the skills they practiced during weekly therapeutic lessons. Students participate in the program through four locations in Fairfield, Putnam and Westchester counties.

Each student was awarded a ribbon for improving some aspect of their horsemanship technique.

“Today we celebrate not only our horse show riders, but every military veteran, person with special needs and at-risk individual who participates in our programs throughout the year,” said Pegasus Program Director Shelly Pope, Ed.D. “This event helps raise awareness and essential funding on behalf of every Pegasus student, and we are deeply grateful for the continued support of our local community.”

Pegasus Therapeutic Riding is a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center that provides the therapeutic horseback riding sessions and related activities to people with special needs, military veterans and at-risk individuals, including disadvantaged youth and abuse survivors.
