Hundreds attend Old Greenwich block party

It was time to party late last month in Old Greenwich and people turned out in force to enjoy an old-fashioned Saturday night block party.

The event was held on Saturday, July 28, and closed Arcadia Road as part of an effort by the Old Greenwich Merchants Association to promote the Old Greenwich sidewalk sales and have a fun evening in the community. Food, live music and even a dunk tank were among the highlights for the event which was held for the first time this year. Local restaurants like The Beach House Cafe and Old Greenwich staple Garden Catering sold food, and a stage for the live music was set up between the Porricelli’s Food Mart and the Soundview Service Center.

Robert Fulton, president of Chillybear on Sound Beach Avenue, helped coordinate the event as part of the Old Greenwich Merchants Association. As a business owner and a resident, he said it was great to see the community response. He estimated the attendance was “well over 700” and said it was the perfect complement to the sidewalk sales.

“It was an awesome event,” Mr. Fulton said. “People really enjoyed themselves and we’re definitely doing it next year.”

Mr. Fulton said that block parties like this were an Old Greenwich tradition 20 years ago and that he was hoping to make it an annual event now.

“It couldn’t have worked out better,” Mr. Fulton said.
