Our Life cartoon hit close to home last week

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

I got a chuckle from the Our Life cartoon by Jane Condon and Bobbi Eggers in the Post’s July 10 edition with the joke, “Yes, Ted, I bought an annulment at the school auction. It’s a win/win for me and the school.”

This certainly struck a chord for me. Neither my first wife nor I bought an annulment. However, I did bid on legal services offered by a lawyer for a will or an uncontested divorce in an auction for the ACLU. I succeeded. My wife and I met in his office and flipped a coin for who would be the “bad” guy. It turned out it would be me.

It would not surprise me to find that I might be the only person who has done a divorce in this fashion.

I also bought a painting by Louisiana artist Donald Wright. I named it Red Nude. My bride of 37 years thinks it is ugly. It hangs out in my closet and is being put up for sale. You can be the judge of its and her beauty.
