Goldrick should be ashamed after last week’s column

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor

Sean Goldrick and Congressman Jim Himes should be ashamed of themselves.

They know that the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court decision is about protecting religious liberty, not denying contraception to anyone. As a company, Hobby Lobby provides 16 forms of contraception to its employees through their insurance policy. The owners of Hobby Lobby objected to paying for four additional forms of contraception which are considered to be abortifacients and violate their religious beliefs.

No one is preventing their employees from obtaining and using those two forms of contraceptives. They just do not want to pay for them. The employees will have to pay for those two forms of contraceptives themselves or use one of the other 16 methods that their insurance policy covers.

To distort this decision into a false “war on women” is disingenuous and disparaging of women.

Similarly, Mr. Goldrick knows that Dan Debicella supports every woman’s right to contraception. What he voted against was forcing the Catholic Church and Catholic hospitals to dispense contraception against their beliefs. But of course the Democrats turn that around to say that Dan wanted to deny women their rights and access to women’s health care.

Again, this is misleading and assumes that women are not astute enough to know the difference. There are many issues that women care about, but since contraception is readily available to anyone, this is a non-issue.

Women care about jobs for themselves, their husbands and their adult children. Women care about a vibrant and growing economy. Women care about excellence in education for their younger children, parental decisions, school choice and quality teachers. Women care about America’s standing in the world and our national security.

In all of these areas and many others, Congressman Himes and the Democratic Party have failed them.
