Greenwich officers promoted to lieutenant, Sergeant

Two Greenwich police officers will be honored at a promotion ceremony on Thursday, August 9, when they will be sworn in by First Selectman Peter Tesei at the town’s Public Safety Complex.

Sgt. James M. Bonney will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Technician Alton D. hall will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In a press release announcing the promotions, the department credited both officers with having an “impressive history both police training and experience.”

Sgt. Bonney has been a employee of the Greenwich Police Department since 1990 and is the recipient of several awards including Officer of the Year in 2007 and two letters of Commendation from the FBI for the chase and apprehension of suspects from two separate bank robberies.

He is also an EMS instructor, president of the Silver Shield Association, a member of the police Honor Guard, a Marine Section supervisor and holds his U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Masters License.

Sgt. Bonney’s training background is extensive and includes incident response to terrorist and suicide bombing, criminal patrol drug enforcement and EMS instruction. He is a father of three and graduated from Dowling College with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration in 1990.

Technician Hall has been an employee of the police department since 1992 and he is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. He is the recipient of a number of awards, including two for his abilities as a sniper.

Technician Hall is also an active member of the police department’s Special Response Unit and holds the position of Department Armorer for the Greenwich police weapons system. His training includes certification by the FBI in firearms and is a certified law enforcement trainer in several subjects including active shooter response, close quarters battle techniques and chemical sprays and munitions.

Technician Hall is married with three children and graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1987.

The promotion ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m.
