Greenwich Hospital will hold its annual Under the Stars event on Friday, July 11 at Riverside Yacht Club from 7 to 11:30 p.m.

This popular summer fund raiser will benefit the hospital’s smallest and most vulnerable patients who need the services of the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Department. Greenwich residents Brooke Bremer, Lauren O’Malley and Jessica Reardon, a registered nurse, are serving as co-chairs of the event.

Designed as a casual, mid-summer event, Under the Stars is expected to draw more than 400 guests from Fairfield and Westchester counties. It will be set under a canopy of evening stars and attendees will enjoy cocktails, dinner and dancing to live music against the scenic backdrop of the Long Island Sound.

The evening will also feature an array of silent, live and wine auction items. Special guest auctioneer Simon Teakle will conduct the bidding for live auction items such as a week’s stay for four at a luxury vacation resort, a getaway to a French chateau and a sunset cocktail cruise aboard a yacht.

This will be the third year that Ms. Reardon, an emergency nurse at Greenwich Hospital, has served as co-chair.

“Under the Stars is a fun, casual party that helps children,” she said. “I see first-hand how the proceeds make a difference in patient care.”

During the event Greenwich Hospital will honor Sue Brown, RN, MSN, senior vice president, Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer for her nearly 40 years at  Greenwich Hospital. Ms. Brown has been called “the driving force in transforming the Maternity, Labor and Delivery department into a multi-disciplinary service line that offers mothers and mothers-to-be a level of comprehensive care unparalleled in our region. She was instrumental in first establishing the NICU and Perinatology departments at the hospital, among other noteworthy accomplishments.”

Ms. O’Malley, who is heading this committee for the second year, said supporting infant and child services is a cause close to her heart. “I delivered my son at Greenwich Hospital and I want to be sure that the high level of care I experienced is there for every family.”

The NICU provides round-the-clock care for infants as young as 27 gestational weeks from neonatologists, neonatal nurses and nurse practitioners. The unit is equipped with the latest lifesaving technology to give struggling infants their greatest chance for a healthy outcome.

“Greenwich Hospital provides vital, cutting edge healthcare services to our community. It’s critical that we unite in our support to keep it on the forefront of medicine and to maintain and expand its proven record of excellence,” said Ms. Bremer.
