Self-centered childlessness in our leaders is doing us harm

CNN is broadcasting pleasing topics for viewers. They’re ignoring that it’s the 100th anniversary of World War I starting and we now have similarities in the Middle East.

Yet, the world is more nuts than it was in 1914. Last week in Buffalo, N.Y., someone was selling “ISIS” T-shirts with a slogan printed “WE ARE ALL!” on them. That did not make national coverage, even with ISIS capturing 11 Iraq towns. We’re not prepared for what this new terrorist group has promised. Remember, the world is much smaller than it was in 1914.

Today, some of the same politics that started WWI are still debated, yet. With so much more to lose now, why are our politicians still in a stalemate? Surely when two opposing politicians are in the same foxhole, they must fight together to survive.

LBJ stated that you should always talk to your political opponents, because it gets info. The more info the better. Yet with today’s media filtering out some stories for lack of appeal or correctness I fear, as stated before, that we are doomed.

Few of the political types I have dealt with in the past believe in LBJ’s words. When I advocated humor in my piece titled Art Brings Common Ground, which discussed Jimmy Fallon’s comedy routine with Mitt Romney, Selectmen Drew Marzullo’s only comment was, “I’m not for Romney.”

First Selectman Peter Tesei never returns my communications, even with all the praise I gave him from the end of 2013’s election into February 2014.

With not enough troops for what’s coming, we need leaders who are more than just administrators for what we have. It would take little effort to start a proper civil defense roster of citizens with military, intelligence and first responder backgrounds. Yet, a combination of “Corps pride” and apathy prevents creating additional troop pools for basic insurance.

It’s the same with my “mobile office” idea that would give the selectmen more contact with the public. It’s just dismissed even though I have the vehicle to give for a trial period.

CNN states all politicians are deadlocked and I state it’s because of self-centered childlessness.
