Demres, Kelly take Greenwich Cup Triathlon

David Demres, a 23-year-old from New Haven, was the winner and Stamford’s Megan Kelly was the female champion in the Volvo of Stamford Greenwich Cup Triathlon at Tod’s Point this past Sunday.

Demres covered the three elements of the event in 1 hour, four minutes and 45 seconds to lead the field of 507 finishers. Trevor Heller, 20, of Naugatuck was runner-up with a 1:08:29.


The triathlon began with a half-mile swim, followed with a 15-mile bicycle ride and concluded with a 3-mile run at Tod’s Point

Zachariah Pratt, 36, of Riverside placed third with a 1:08:56 and Jon Baxendale, 39, of Greenwich was just one second behind Pratt. Scott Powell, 50, of Chappaqua, N.Y., completed the top five with a 1:09:12.

Kelly, 33, placed 15th overall with a 1:12:10.

The other Greenwich residents among the top 50 included Jon Charette (20th, 1:13:24), Owen West (21st, 1:13:42), Peter Bailey (22nd, 1:13:42), Taylor Black (23rd, 1:13:46), Peter Hirsh (29gth, 1:15:36), Ashley Honey (30th, 1:15:57), Adrian Stroie (35th, 1:16:54), James Cimador (39th, 1:18:08), Marc Wolpers (40th, 1:18:08), Viorez Stroie (41st, 1:18:16) and Rob Nizielski (48th, 1:18:43).

The remaining four events in the annual series of 10 events are the Volvo of Stamford Tour de Greenwich XXVIII at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, Susannah’s Run at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14, the Beachfront Bushwhack/Max’s Mile at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, and the Jingle Bell Jog at 9 a.m. on Dec. 9.
