Field hockey legend Jaime Dwyer will be teaching a clinic at Convent of the Sacred Heart.

Convent of the Sacred Heart will host a world-class field hockey clinic with World Cup stars on Wednesday, Aug. 6 for middle and high school players and youth to collegiate coaches.

The clinic is runs from 10 a.m. to noon for middle school players and 1 to 3 p.m. All levels of ability are encouraged to attend. In addition to athletes, the clinic is open to coaches of all levels, from youth to collegiate. The coaches’ session runs from 4 to 6 p.m.

The clinic will be held on Convent of the Sacred Heart’s two turf fields and a certified athletic trainer will provide medical care.

Turf shoes or cleats must be worn at all times and mouth guards, eye gear and shin guards are required for play.

A player in the 2014 World Cup, Mark Knowles, will join the legendary Jamie Dwyer and Jaap Stockmann, goalkeeper in the 2014 World Cup, as the clinicians of the JDH Academy Field Hockey Clinic.

Dwyer, an Australian field hockey player, has been named the world’s best hockey player five times, (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011). Knowles, captain of the 2014 Australian Kookaburra team, is a teammate of Dwyer’s on the 2014 World Cup Championship team, the 2004 Olympic Gold medal and 2008 & 2012 Olympic bronze medal teams. Stockmann, a Dutch goalkeeper, currently plays for the Netherlands national field hockey team.

In the first session, middle school players will work on basic skills and first touch and trapping. They will work on goal shooting with Dwyer, tackling and defense with Knowles and goalkeeping with Stockmann.

Lunch is from noon to 1 p.m. and during that time Dwyer, Knowles and Stockmann will sit and talk with the student-athletes, parents and coaches about training and nutrition. Bring your own bag lunch.

During the second session, high school athletes will work on forehand and backhand hitting, complex skills, dribbling, lifting over sticks, spins, overhead passing and receiving, goal shooting with Dwyer, tackling and defense with Knowles and goalkeeping with Stockmann.

In the coaches session, the group of Dwyer, Stockmann and Knowles will talk about Australian, European and South Asian styles of play, free hits in attack 23 meters, penalty corner attack and defense, penalty corner attack and defense, penalty shootouts one-on-one and strength and conditioning.

Registration deadline is Aug. 1.
