Make-A-Wish Connecticut celebrated a wish come true for seven-year-old Gianna Amereno of Riverside recently, throwing a party in her honor at a local country club.

Gianna, whose wish is to go on a Disney Cruise in the Bahamas and swim with the dolphins, arrived at the club in true princess fashion, traveling in a Rolls Royce “carriage,” donated by Miller Motor Cars, and being escorted by her very own Prince Charming.

Dozens of friends, family members, Make-A-Wish volunteers and fans surprised Gianna upon her arrival with cheers, carrying signs and taking photographs of the guest of honor. Members of the Make-A-Wish Connecticut Celebrating Wishes Ball event committee, which takes place annually each November at the Greenwich Country Club, also came out to see Gianna off with well wishes.

“Gianna’s friends and family have made her wish-come-true experience even more special as they came to join in a celebration in her honor,” commented Michael Dominick, Community & Media Relations Manager for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. “Gianna’s wish will give her a chance to relax and give back to her something that often is taken away from kids battling life-threatening medical conditions — the chance to simply be a kid. To send her off on her wish with such a great celebration is a great experience for her and her entire family.”

After a welcome from her fans, Gianna enjoyed all of her favorite foods in a room decorated with balloons and was joined by her classmates, friends, and family. The celebration was a great way to kick off her journey to the Bahamas and a chance for all those closest to her to wish her well.

“We were very honored to meet Gianna and become her wish granters,” Gianna’s volunteer wish granters Gina Filippelli and Sharon Platter shared. “She is an incredibly special little girl who touched our hearts. We were thrilled to be a part of her wish.”

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Connecticut grants almost 150 wishes each year.
