Greenwich Historical Society to offer free admission on June 14

On June 14, from noon to 4 p.m., the Greenwich Historical Society will open its doors free of charge for the Connecticut Office of Tourism’s 10th annual Connecticut Open House Day.

Guests will enjoy free tours of the Bush-Holley House and a collage workshop led by local artist Carol Nipomnich Dixon in the Vanderbilt Education Center. There is also free admission to the current Storehouse Gallery exhibition, Enjoying the Country Life: Greenwich’s Great Estate and free tours of Bush-Holley House. Professional and amateur artists are also invited to set up their easels “en plein air” to create their own impressions of Bush-Holley Historic site in its spring glory.

The collage workshop will focus on creating two-dimensional collages crafted from papers, fabrics, photographs, found objects and natural materials such as dried grasses, twigs, leaves or petals. All materials will be provided, but participants may also bring copies of favorite photos, newspaper articles or other items to incorporate into their work. Ms. Dixon will provide guidance on how to juxtapose color, texture and imagery to transform materials into a distinctly new and personal visual statement.

The workshop will take place in the Vanderbilt Education Center on June 14 from noon to 2 p.m., and all ages are welcome. The Storehouse Gallery will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Docent-led tours of Bush-Holley House will take place at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

CT Open House is a statewide event designed to showcase Connecticut’s diverse offerings of history, art and tourism. Residents are encouraged to act as Connecticut cultural ambassadors by inviting family and friends to attend events at local sites such as the Greenwich Historical Society in support of the cultural treasures in their own backyards.
