C. Parker Gallery hosts flag-themed exhibition

In honor of Independance Day 2014, C. Parker Gallery will put on a themed group exhibition entitled Star-Spangled featuring the work of more than 15 nationally known artists exploring the American flag as an iconographic symbol in contemporary art.

The American flag is of course synonymous with the holiday and countless artists have experimented with the design of the Star-Spangled Banner since its inception. Among the showcased art is the work of Mary Ann Lomonaco, who uses recycled materials such as wire, aluminum cans and buttons to render fresh images of the flag. C. Parker Gallery artist Jodie Mauer stacks heavy layers of impasto paint in her contributions to the exhibition, while Aaron Foster builds complex maps of America inspired by a collection of license plates.

Star-Spangled will run from June 12 to July 31 at the gallery, offering visitors a chance to admire the flag from a multitude of perspectives.

The C. Parker Gallery  is  at 17 East Putnam Avenue. For more information regarding the exhibition, call 203-253-0934, email [email protected] or visit Cparkergallery.com.
