Greenwich’s Judy Young called a champion of housing

On May 15, New Neighborhoods, Inc. (NNI) and 300 business, community and civic leaders recognized the Fairfield County Affordable Housing Network at a luncheon at the Stamford Marriott Hotel.

The Fairfield County Affordable Housing Network is a grassroots group of individuals from suburban Fairfield County towns that include Judy Young of Greenwich, and advocates from Darien, Fairfield, New Fairfield, New Canaan, Ridgefield, Westport and Wilton.

They are involved in various capacities as volunteers working to improve housing diversity and affordability and address the particular housing needs identified as priorities in each of their towns. NNI is Fairfield County’s oldest active nonprofit developer, preserver, and manager of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing, with housing in Stamford, Norwalk, and Danbury.

Champions of Housing Committee Chair, Mary Marple Thies, Champions of Housing Honorary Chair Steven Wise , the New Neighborhoods, Inc. Board of Directors, and NNI President & CEO Ross Burkhardt are hosting the seventh annual luncheon.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4th), a Cos Cob resident and Stamford Mayor David Martin were guests at the event.

Manuel Pastor spoke about demographic trends and changes in local suburbs over the next decade or two and the implications for the infrastructure and economy in the region. Dr. Pastor is founding director of the Center for Justice, Tolerance, and Community at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He currently directs the Program for Environmental and Regional Equity at USC and co-directs USC’s Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration. Dr. Pastor’s appearance is being underwritten by First Niagara.

Proceeds from the 2014 Champions of Housing luncheon will benefit NNI’s housing development and preservation, management and Tenant Advocacy Program (TAP) initiatives. NNI is a 501(c)3 nonprofit housing corporation.
