Plethora of playoffs games for Greenwich High athletics

It’s going to be a busy week for the spring athletic teams at Greenwich High School and it all begins today.

Kicking things off today will be the GHS boys and girls track and field teams, as they will travel up to Danbury High School for competition in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships at 2 p.m.

The Greenwich High School baseball team will start play in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference postseason when they travel to Westport and battle top-seeded Staples High School today at 4. The Cardinals, seeded eighth in the tournament battled the Wreckers earlier in the year, falling 2-1 in nine innings.

Another team that will be competing in Westport will be the Greenwich High School boys tennis team, as they take the courts against Staples High School for competition in the FCIAC semifinals.

The match is slated to get underway at 4 p.m. and it will be rematch from a few days ago. Big Red hosted Staples High back on May 19 and fell 4-3. The loss was only Greenwich’s second of the season and every match during the first meeting was a close contest.

After one of the best seasons in quite some time, the Greenwich High School softball team will be hosting a game in the opening round of the FCIAC tournament. Big Red is currently seeded third overall and will battle No 6 seed Westhill High School today at 4.

Back on April 25, the Vikings hosted Greenwich and came away with the thrilling 1-0 victory, so the Lady Cards will be looking for revenge in FCIACs.

Playing under the lights at Brien McMahon’s Jack Casagrande Field, the Greenwich High School boys lacrosse team, seeded second in the FCIAC tournament will be competing against No. 3 seed Ridgefield in the semifinal round.

The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m., as the No. 1 seeded Darien Blue Wave play fourth seed New Canaan High School at 5. On April 15, both the Tigers and Cardinals battled in a rainy overtime thriller, with GHS winning 8-7.

Also competing today will be the Greenwich High School boys golf team, as they travel to the Country Club of Darien for competition in the annual Holohan Tournament.
