Greenwich High softball blitzes Trumbull High, 12-6

In a battle of two teams looking to go far in the upcoming Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament, it was the Greenwich High softball team that got the better of Trumbull High School Monday afternoon, 12-6

Colleen Bennett led the way for Greenwich, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Not to be outdone was Erin White, who finished 2-for-3 with one run batted in. Teammate Madison Burhans finished 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Erin Ferguson stole the show by going 2-for-3, netting a three-run homer and four runs batted in.

Cate Decker finished the game 1-for-4 with one RBI and Dominque Gambino pitched in by nailing two sacrifice bunts and picking up on RBI.

On the mound, Jessie Schelz went the distance and picked up one strikeout and four walks. At the plate, Schelz went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The victory moved the Lady Cardinals to 13-3 in the FCIAC and into the third seed for the playoffs if the season ended today. Although Fairfield Ludlowe also has a 13-3 conference record, Greenwich’s head-to-head victory against the Falcons gives them the tiebreaker.

The Eagles fell to 11-5 overall and currently sit in the seventh spot for the playoffs.
