In a battle of one-loss teams, the Greenwich High School boys tennis team was able to pull out the hard-fought 4-3 victory over Ridgefield High School earlier today.

Big Red’s clinching match took place at No. 3 singles, as Dickon Hollister defeated Tai Nizan 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

At No. 4 singles, Greenwich’s Marcos Eslava took care of Andrew Mercurella 6-2, 6-2, while Axel Hebrand helped GHS with a 7-5, 6-3 over Ridgefield’s Hans Reuter at No. 5 singles.

Competing at No. 1 singles, Ridgefield’s Bryson Mosley upended Greenwich’s Ari Cepelewicz 6-3, 7-6 (1), while Pat Sheehan-Delany beat Big Red’s Chris Salisbury 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).

The Cardinals and Tigers split during doubles competition. The Greenwich duo of Shaw Speer and Louis McKenzie had little trouble getting by the No. 1 doubles team of Tommy Knortz and Adam Zukowski, winning 6-1, 6-2.

However, the Tigers got even at No. 2 doubles, as Ryan Brucatto and Owen Isley defeated Greenwich’s Tyler Dagnino and Max Minichetti 6-3, 6-1.
