Registration open for Greenwich summer camps

Registration is officially open for local summer camps, with plenty of space remaining for campers. Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as rates will increase after May 30.

There are a variety of camps to suit your child’s needs. Kamp Kairphree, a co-ed day camp for ages five to 12 will again operate at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center and Greenwich Point. There are four two-week sessions beginning June 23. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Transportation is provided from various sites around town. Kamp Kairphree features swimming, boating, arts and crafts, games, sports and one special event per session.

For children ages eight to 15, there’s a new action/adventure day, Greenwich Adventurers. This program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The summer is split into two sessions, totaling seven weeks. Organized by age and interest, the camp will include one special field trip for each age group per week, local beach days at Greenwich Point and Island Beach, and on-site activities at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center. Transportation is included for all trips and beach days.

Trip locations will include EMPOWER Adventure Center, The Bronx Zoo, Lake Compounce, Quassy Amusement Park, Splashdown Water Park, Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum, Citi Field for a Mets game and Ripley’s Museum as well as others.

If your child is interested in art or music, then there’s an Art & Music Camp. Located at Central Middle School, camp runs from late June through early August, Monday through Friday. The Music Program is open to children grades fourth to eighth, with at least one year of study with a musical instrument and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The art section has both morning and afternoon options and also runs Monday through Friday. Afternoon Art is available only to those enrolled in morning music. There will be a concert and art show held at the end of camp and there is time scheduled for other activities as well.

The early bird special rate for Greenwich residents ends May 30. The programs are open to non-residents beginning June 2. Registration forms can be accessed online at on the Parks and Recreation page under Youth programs. Forms are also available at the Parks and Recreation Office located in Town Hall.
