Paul Hicks to deliver commencement speech at Greenwich High

One of Greenwich High School’s very own, Paul Hicks, will be returning to  the school to deliver the commencement speech on June 19.

The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Greenwich High School’s Cardinal Stadium.

Mr. Hicks, the National Football League’s Executive Vice President of Communications and a member of the GHS Class of 1975 was chosen by the Class of 2014.

“Mr. Hicks’ long history with Greenwich High School, his record of accomplishment in public service and the private sector, and his message to the student body were all important factors in the decision,” said GHS Senior Class President Henry Ricciardi. “I am confident he will convey the many ways GHS gives its students advantages in life after high school, and how that has impacted his own life.”

During his tenure at Greenwich High School, Mr. Hicks was the captain of the first varsity GHS lacrosse team and also played football for the Cardinals during an undefeated season. He has spent most of his professional career in the communications field, serving as a Greenwich selectman, chief of staff to a U.S. Congressman and CEO of Ogilvy Public Relations for the Americas.

He has been a Greenwich resident since 1962 and is the proud parent of two Greenwich High School graduates.

“I’m very excited about the selection of Mr. Paul Hicks to be the speaker at Graduation. I observed the selection process and know that our class leaders led a thorough search and considered all candidates,” said GHS Headmaster Chris Winters. Paul is a shining example of someone who benefited from GHS as a student, whose children attended GHS, and who has gone on to accomplish a great deal both professionally and in his community. I am confident that his message will resonate with our graduates.”

Seating for the outdoor graduation ceremony is unlimited and on a first come, first serve basis. Each family will receive three tickets for use in case there is an indoor ceremony. In case of inclement weather, the commencement ceremonies will be held indoors in the GHS Student Center in two groups — students with last names beginning with A-K will begin at 4 p.m., and students with last names beginning with L-Z will begin at 7:15 p.m.
