Douglas VanderHorn Architects has been honored as the Grand Prize Award Winner for their Bath in a Classical Revival Residence project in the 2014 Watermark Award Competition sponsored by Custom Home and Builder Magazine.

The results of the national competition which were announced on April 10 commend excellence in kitchen and bath design.

Out of more than 100 projects, VanderHorn’s bath was chosen by four nationally renowned jurors who recognized truly exceptional examples of innovative design.

Built in Greenwich, the winning master bath project was designed to be a comfortable room within its classical home.

His and her vanities and the deck mounted tub are neatly tucked into niches to keep the floor plan open. Mirrored panels add a contemporary flair to the otherwise classic detailing of the millwork. The cornice of the vanity niches uses Greek key banding, which is also reflected in the marble mosaic floor border.

“All combined, the lightness and clarity of these details makes for a rich, clean effect,” the judges stated.

Douglas VanderHorn Architects is located at 31 East Elm Street. The firm’s work can be viewed at Vanderhornarchitects.com.
